Many can agree that marriage is a sacred bond that connects two people together, and that it is a basic human right that all can enjoy… Except for gay people. Unfortunately there are laws that prevent homosexuals from even having the capability to join together in matrimony. Same-sex marriage, a heavily debated issue forms along the idea that only men and women should be able to join together in union. Yet, it is morally and humanely just that people should marry whom they want to and if two people wish to present their love for one another in a formal union, they should have the ability and right to do so.
There are religious reasons for why certain people do not condone gay marriage, yet I still do not understand why those people would want to strip gay people of their rights. I’m sure gay couples do not interfere with the lives of strait people who are opposed to their lifestyles, so those who are opposed to the lifestyles of gay people should stay out of their lives. Even with religious reasoning against same-sex marriage, taking such civil rights from men and women is also extremely heretical.
Additionally, some believe same sex marriage “devalues” the sanctity of this sacred union. Would it be appropriate, then, to prohibit divorce, which actually does devalue the bond created by marriage?
Personally, I feel as though people should live the lives they wish to live. There is no person that should have the ability to decide whether or not a couple should be allowed to wed; it is both immoral and unjust. As someone anonymously posted to a mailing list, "A loving man and woman in a committed relationship can marry. Dogs, no matter what their relationship, are not allowed to marry. How should society treat gays and lesbians in committed relationships? As dogs or as humans?"

This is a very controversial issue today. Your blog is very good. I really like how you left us with questions. It gets people thinking. I also believe that gays should have the same rights as strait people. It isn't fair to discriminate against them. They are human just like me and you. I know that some religions are completely against gay marriage but I don't understand it. So what if someone loves someone of the same sex. A guy from my high school that I was friends with is gay and he got picked on all the time. It was never funny and I always stuck up for him. I do not judge people based on those kinds of choices. They can be perfectly fine people. You don't have to agree with the decisions everyone makes. I think we should all be able to express our love freely in whatever way people choose. I think they should have the same rights strait people have. After all they are human, not dogs.
Like you said, we shouldn’t judge people based on their lifestyles, although we may not fully agree with it. One of the fundamental problems in our society is that people try to control and dictate the lives of others. Personally, our society would be incredibly more cohesive if people refrained from interfering with the lives of others. If one doesn’t agree with the lifestyle of someone else, I think he or she should just not interact with that lifestyle.
I agree with you completely! I believe that everyone should have the right the right to get married and nobody should ever be able to dictate the lives of others. LGBT members are allowed to adopt children today. If they are allowed to bring a child into their lives and raise a family then they should be able to get married. After all, isn't that partly what marriage is for? The ability to be with the one person that you love and have babies to raise into wonderful human beings? That's my view on marriage, at least. Everyone should be able to express their love and the way that they are freely and anyone who has a problem with it is clearly no mature enough to handle the situation anyways.
